Delhi Lokayukta demands report on ‘irregularities in classroom construction’

Delhi’s Lokayukta on Friday demanded a response from Arvind Kejriwal’s government over alleged financial irregularities in the construction of additional classrooms in schools under the Department of Education.

“The plaintiff has made allegations of serious financial irregularities in the construction of additional classrooms in GNCTD Education Department schools in Zones 23, 25 and 29 located in Delhi,” said Lokayukta, Justice Harish Chandra Mishra (retired).

In the order, he said: “Having heard from Ld. Counsel for the plaintiff, I believe it would be appropriate to obtain a response from the government side also on the complaint, in order to make a determination as to to continue the proceedings in this matter.

“That a copy of the complaint together with additional affidavits together with their annexes be forwarded to the Chief Secretary, GNCT Delhi, who will obtain the response to the allegations from the appropriate department of GNCT Delhi, if necessary, after obtaining proper investigation .”

The Lokayukta ordered that the investigation report be submitted one week before the next hearing which will take place on October 20.

BJP leader and MP Manoj Tiwari had complained about financial irregularities in the construction of additional classrooms in public schools under the GNCTD Education Department in Areas 23, 25 and 29.
